The African Union (AU) has appointed Hon. Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as an Ambassador and member of the Governing Council of the Pan-African Agenda 2063.
Shaibu was formally inducted into the continental body on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in Abuja. His nomination, conveyed in a letter dated November 18, 2025, by the President of the Pan-African AU, Ambassador Stephen Gbatigbi Ben-Joel, recognizes his excellence as an educationist, administrator, academic, and businessman.
According to the letter, the appointment reflects Shaibu’s outstanding contributions to national development and his service under various political leaders in Nigeria. He was nominated to serve as an Ambassador Plenipotentiary, a role reserved for exceptional leaders whose influence, intellect, and integrity exemplify the AU’s vision.
The Pan-African Agenda 2063 represents the African Union’s 50-year strategic framework (2013–2063), aimed at transforming Africa into a global powerhouse through inclusive growth, regional integration, democratic governance, peace, security, and cultural identity. The initiative serves as a blueprint for achieving “The Africa We Want,” prioritizing economic growth, governance, and social cohesion.
A seasoned teacher, journalist, and public relations expert, Shaibu has nearly three decades of experience in strategic communication and crisis management. The AU expects him to leverage his expertise to help realize Agenda 2063’s vision of a united, prosperous, and peaceful Africa led by its own citizens.
