The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Hulayat Omidiran, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the National Assembly to advance equity and national balance in public service appointments.

Omidiran made the pledge during a courtesy visit by Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, who represents Kebbi Central Senatorial District, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting focused on strengthening legislative–executive cooperation to promote fairness, inclusiveness and adherence to the federal character principle in line with constitutional provisions.

Speaking during the engagement, Omidiran emphasised the importance of sustained interaction with lawmakers to support the Commission’s mandate and improve institutional performance.

“The Federal Character Commission cannot operate in isolation. Our work requires strong synergy with the National Assembly to ensure that fairness, inclusiveness and national balance remain at the heart of governance,” she said.

She added that the Commission was committed to building institutional partnerships that would reinforce transparency and accountability across the public service.

“This visit clearly demonstrates our readiness to work closely with the legislature for the benefit of all Nigerians,” said the former federal lawmaker, who represented her constituency in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019.

Earlier, Senator Aliero commended the leadership of the Commission and pledged legislative support for initiatives aimed at promoting equitable representation and national cohesion.

Aliero, a former governor of Kebbi State from 1999 to 2007 and a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has represented Kebbi Central in the Senate since 2015.

The visit is part of ongoing strategic engagements by the FCC leadership to strengthen institutional partnerships and advance reforms targeted at entrenching the federal character principle across Nigeria’s public service.
