The Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of recognising what it described as an unauthorised leadership group within the party.
The faction warned that it would pursue legal action, insisting that the dispute over the PDP’s leadership remains before the Court of Appeal.

Dispute Over INEC Invitation
In a statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP National Publicity Secretary aligned with the Turaki faction, the group reacted to INEC’s invitation to political party leaders for a meeting.
According to the statement, INEC also invited individuals who claim to head a “National Caretaker Committee” to represent the PDP.
The faction argued that the PDP constitution does not recognise such a committee and described the move as improper.
Threat of Legal Action
The Turaki-led group said it would challenge INEC’s action in court.
It maintained that ongoing cases before the Court of Appeal address the party’s leadership dispute and could directly affect the matter under consideration.
The statement criticised INEC for allegedly failing to exercise restraint despite the pending litigation. It also insisted that the electoral commission does not have the authority to determine the party’s leadership.
Call for Calm Among Members
Despite the escalating tensions, the faction urged party members to remain calm while awaiting the court’s decision.
It expressed confidence that the Court of Appeal would soon resolve the leadership cases.
The statement further reaffirmed support for what it described as the PDP’s “Rebirth movement” under Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, promising that the party would emerge stronger and more united.
Background
The PDP has faced internal leadership disputes in recent months, with rival groups laying claim to authority within the opposition party.
The outcome of the court proceedings could shape the party’s structure ahead of future political activities.
